Avidemux Old Versions Download (2.7.x, 2.6.x, 32-bit & Windows 7)

Where to find older Avidemux releases for legacy hardware, 32-bit systems, and Windows 7 — and which series you actually need.

Most people should use the current stable release, Avidemux 2.8.1 (2022). Older releases only make sense if your hardware or operating system cannot run it — for example a 32-bit Windows machine, or a system still running Windows 7.

Version Timeline at a Glance

Avidemux releases fall into three eras. No specific release dates are promised here — only the series line-up:

  • 2.8.x series — the current generation. 2.8.1 is the latest stable release (2022); the 2.8.2 line consists of nightly/development snapshots, not a new stable release. 64-bit only.
  • 2.7.x series — the previous stable generation. Still 64-bit, and the last series with broad Windows 7 support.
  • 2.6.x series — the older generation from the 32-bit/XP era. The last series with 32-bit Windows builds.

Who Needs an Old Version?

  • Windows 7 users: grab a 2.7.x build — it is the newest series that still runs comfortably on Windows 7.
  • 32-bit Windows users: you need a 2.6.x build. The 2.7.x and 2.8.x series are 64-bit only.
  • Old hardware (XP-era machines): 2.6.x is the series built for that era.
  • Everyone else: use the current stable 2.8.1. There is no benefit to running an older release on a modern machine.

Download Old Versions

All historical releases are archived in the official Avidemux project archive on SourceForge. The links below go to that official archive, plus our download page archive section which hosts the most-requested legacy builds.

Security reminder: old versions receive no security updates and may contain unpatched vulnerabilities. Only use them on legacy machines, preferably offline or in a trusted environment — never as a daily driver on a machine that touches the internet.

FAQ

I am still on Windows 7 — which Avidemux should I download?

Pick a 2.7.x build from the official SourceForge archive. It is the newest series that still runs well on Windows 7, while the current 2.8.1 series is aimed at newer systems.

Is there a newer release for 32-bit systems?

No. The 2.7.x and 2.8.x series are 64-bit only. If you are on a 32-bit system, 2.6.x is the newest series you can run — you are not missing a newer 32-bit build, because none was made.

Can an old version open projects saved by a newer Avidemux?

Not guaranteed. Project files are not always backward compatible between series, and filters or settings introduced in newer releases will not load in older ones. If you need to move a project to an old machine, re-export it as a plain video file first.
